Passau just locates at the end of the 250km long Glass Road in Bavaria, Germany. So it’s not hard to find some small glass making shops to watch how the folk artists worked on those colorful glass.

Different from glass-blowing, Artists here combine their glass creations by flame.

A typical Passau glass making shop often runs only by one or two artists, They sold their productions mainly to tourists.

Some finger rings made by glass, I didn’t find this kind of rings at other place.

Just following the colorful line somewhere at the street of Passau, You will find many fascinating artwork shops.

A red double decker bus, as the icon of London, together with David Beckham, Appeared at yesterday’s Beijing Olympic Games closing ceremony, as the headline of eight-minute Olympic handover performance.
My first London tour was in July 2004, Those Red Double Decker Buses did not retire then, So I was asked by iWalk to write something about this icon of London.

This photo was taken at Oxford street in evening of 24 July, 2004.

Double decker buses are very popular in the United Kingdom, The most famous of them is red double decker buses in London. They almost appeared in every film about London within last 50 years.

The red double decker bus in London was named the Routemaster bus, Let me introduce it’s history in short words:

1947–1956:
was developed by a team led by Douglas Scott

1956:
was introduced to London

1956-1981:
The heyday of Routemaster operation

From the 1980s:
many of the surplus Routemasters were sold to other operators or transferred to training fleets

9 December 2005:
the last official running day

From above, We know the Routemaster saw continuous service in London until 2005, In all, 2,876 Routemasters were built, and about 1,300 still in existence. Because people love them so much, Some of them were reconstructed into a Bar or restaurant. And other of them got the second chance in Honshu,Hague, Moscow, Paris, Barbados and Jamaica.

Currently, There are two heritage routes in central London remain use Routemasters in order to appeal to tourists:

Heritage route 9:
Royal Albert Hall — Hyde Park Corner — Piccadilly Circus — Trafalgar Square — Strand — Aldwych.

Heritage route 15:
Trafalgar Square — Strand — Aldwych — Fleet Street — Cannon Street — Monument — Tower Hill.

These red red double decker buses were specially restored from remaining examples, But with new clean environmental engines and modern electrics and sealed windows.

I think Olympics already gave it a new chance. People all over the world would feel wonderful to travel London by a 50 years old London icon in the Olympic year.

Found in 11th century, Wilder Mann Hotel (wild man) was the most historic hotel in Passau. It has hosted Sissi (Empress Elizabeth of Austria), and the famous U.S. Astronaut Neil Armstrong.
It also share the same building with the world’s largest collections of Bohemian glass, Passau Glass Museum.

The Passau Glass Museum possesses one of the world’s largest collections of Bohemian glass. The architecture is in Bavarian style.

Princess Sissi’s room in Wilder Mann Hotel.

Some of Princess Sissi’s properties are exhibited here for the fans from all over the world.

Because of the movie Sissi, I love the pure-hearted Bavarian princess very much. So I would not miss a chance following her traces in Passau.

Wilder Mann Hotel (wild man) Locates at the centre of Passau, just beside the quay where most of the ships will leave for the cruises to Vienna, Budapest and the Black Sea.

Princess Sissi (Empress Elizabeth) stayed in Passau for three times. In the year 1862, She stayed in Wilder Mann Hotel for 8 days meeting her parents, duke Max and duchess Ludowika of Bavaria and her sister, Queen Marie of Bourbon-Neapel. The room she had lived became the Empress-Sissi-room as a special memo.

Wilder Mann Hotel (wild man) shares the same building with Passau Glass Museum. The museum houses Bavarian, Bohemian and Austrian glass from 1780 to 1935. And it was the world’s largest collections of Bohemian glass. Yeah, Many glasses with fantastic and complex details.

I also was told the building contains the largest German-language book collection. Yeah, I saw many books there, and I got a famous manual named Rotel Tour there. That’s back-packer’s favorite.

It’s really a place you should visit if you travel to Germany.

I don’t know why Leo always feels so cool to himself. Maybe he knew he had a great kindred named “Waldi”, Who was the first officially-named Olympic mascot.

Dachshund Waldi appearanted at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, It’s the first mascot in Olympic history.

When German realized that they need a unique and popular mascot to materialize the Olympic spirit, promote the history and culture of the host country and communicate the Olympic spirit to the general public, especially children and youth. They found a dachshund is the best choice.

Dachshund is very popular in Germany. It has also been viewed as a symbol of Germany in political cartoons.And it he possesses qualities which are indispensable to an athlete: resistance, tenacity and agility. These are important reasons it was chosen to be the mascot of Olympic Games held in Germany.

In order to communicate easily, They gave the mascot name as “Waldi”. Waldi was designed by Otl Aicher and modeled on a real dog, a long-haired Dachshund named Cherie von Birkenhof. Waldi’s head and tail were blue and his colours symbolized the joy of the Olympic festival.

From then on, Olympic mascot becomes an important element of the Olympic Games.

I still remember the first time I know Elvis. One of my friend worte me a letter, she told me she was so moved by a song named “Love Me Tender”. “Could you help me translate it into Chinese? “She asked. But I found the feeling was so hard to translate.

Though I am not a true fan of Elvis Presley. But I love his love songs very much, I put all of them in my iPod, and they always together with me.

Elvis Presley always sung his songs with more feeling and passion. Maybe it’s the reason he was appreciated by all, from his 50’s baby boom generation to the “Post-90s” generation, And all the rest to come.

When I was a little child, Movie was one of important channel for me to know the outside world. Thank my parents, They gave me the chances of going to the cinema at least one time a week with their poor imcome then. From then on, Many places where those stories happend in classic movies became my destinations of travel.

Okay, Here is my list of top 10 classic movies relate to travel:

1. Roman Holiday (1953)
Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn are my favorite stars. This movie was filmed in Rome, Joe Bradley(Gregory Peck) showed Rome to Princess Ann(Audrey Hepburn), Landmarks such as the Spanish Steps, The Roman Forum, The Pantheon,The Colosseum, Mouth of Truth were the witness of their romantic story.

2. Out of Africa (1985)
“I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills…” I can never forget this beginning. Coffee plantation, Hunt game, Native custom, Karen’s(Meryl Streep) tenacity and Deny(Robert Redford’s) freedom character, That’s Africa!

3. The Sound of Music (1965)
The musical contains many popular songs, including “Edelweiss”, “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi”, “The Lonely Goatherd”, as well as “The Sound of Music”. I love Maria von Trapp’s story so much. And the place where the movie was filmed: Salzburg, Austria and Bavaria, Germany. I have been to Bavaria already, Salzburg is still in my next destination list.

4. Around the World in 80 Days
Day1 at London; Day10 at Paris; Day17 at mediterranean sea; Day24 at Turkey; Day31 at India; Day38 at China, Day45 at Pacific Ocean;Day52 at San Francisco…Day80 back to London. What an amazing tour!
It’s said Jules Verne wrote this novel in Amiens. I still have no chance travel around world like Phileas Fogg, But I am glad that I have been visiting Jules Verne’ house in Amiens.

5. Cinema Paradiso(1988)
This movie was filmed at the town of Palermo and Cefalu at Sicily, Italy. The imagery in each scene can reflect everybody’s idealised memories about childhood.
It’s said Palermo was also one of the film locations of The Godfather, Sicily alway so wonderful and mystic to me.

6.The English Patient(1996)
The entire film was shoot on in Italy and Tunisia. Photography began at the town of Pienza in Tuscany, 52 kilometers south of Siena, to film scenes which take place in and around the monastery, Then desert of Tunis. I love the rurality of middle ages, And the story of course.

7. The Motorcycle Diaries
It’s a biographical film about Ernesto Guevara, who became the internationally known iconic of Marxist revolutionary “Che” Guevara. The film recounted the motorcycle journey across South America by 23 years old Guevara and his friend in 1953. The journey lasted eight months, the partners traveled over 14,000 kilometres, from Argentina through Chile, Peru, and Colombia to Venezuela.
I hope I can visit the Road of Guevara in South America some day.

8. Casablanca(1942)
Though it was filmed at California, USA, Most time in Warner Brothers’ Burbank Studios. But the film and the song made Casablanca a special city in everybody’s heart.

9.The Unbearable Lightness of Being(1988)
Milan Kundera, Prague, Czechoslovakia, these three names are already magic enough. This film has a chinese name as Prague’s Love, Maybe they think Prague is the best sample of Bohemian and Bourgeois.

10. Tomb Raider(2001)
I don’t think it’s a classic film. But I love Angelina Jolie, And her adventure at Angkor Wat, Cambodia. I hope I can enjoy the famous sunset of Angkor Wat this Autumn.

They are still many, But I can only list these this moment. So, How about yours?
